The Glen Ord distillery is located just north of Inverness. It used to be an alehouse and meal mill but then Robert Johnstone and Donald McLennan gave it the licence in 1838. In 1896 the distillery was completely refurbished and modified and it ranked as one of the top distilleries in Scotland.
The majority of Glen Ord whisky was used for blending up until about 1990, however they then launched a 12 year old single malt which one international awards. Glen Ord has a fantastic visitor centre which is open all year.
Glen Ord is now one of three distilleries which are sold under The Singleton brand, along with Dufftown and Glendullan. Malt Whisky from this distillery has also been sold under the Glenordie, Ordie and Ord brands. There is also a major industrial maltings on the site supplying many other local distilleries.
