Gray Monk Latitude 50 White is a white wine from the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, Canada. The winery, Gray Monk Estate Winery, was established in 1972 by George and Trudy Heiss. The Heiss family, who came from Austria and Germany, were pioneers in the BC wine industry and were the first to plant Pinot Gris in the province. Today, the winery is proudly owned and operated by Andrew Peller Limited. Wine Description This wine is a blend of several white varietals, which can include Vidal, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Muscat. The 2024 vintage, for example, is a blend of Vidal, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, and Muscat grapes. The wine has a pale straw hue. On the nose, it has delicate notes of orange blossom and white peach. The palate is a blend of citrusy freshness and the subtle sweetness of ripe peaches and other orchard fruits like melon and apple. It is described as light to medium-bodied, smooth, refreshing, and off-dry, with a hint of spice on the finish. The grapes are gently pressed and the juice is cool-fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit's aromatics.
