Elephant Strength Gin is our take on a so-called “navy strength,” whose origin comes from the Royal English Navy and putting a gin to test by lighting it with gunpowder. If the gin had at least 57% ABV, then it surely survived the test and was proclaimed of navy strength. Elephant Strength is based on the award-winning Elephant London Dry Gin and with its 57% ABV, it is stronger and richer than the original. The Strength encompasses twice the quantity of botanicals and a focus on the extraordinary African buchu, sweet orange peel and herbaceous mountain pine. It is a gentle giant! Instead of the hemp string that ties around the London Dry bottles, the Strength Gin features a rope-like string with a charming miniature anchor hanging from it. The Elephant Strength labels carry the names of the so-called Magnificent Seven: the strongest and most impressive elephants known to Kruger National Park, South Africa, these precious bull elephants all bore tusks weighing more than 50kg each.
Producer Elephant Gin produces award-winning handcrafted premium gin products made with rare African botanicals. While its story started in South Africa, Elephant Gin is handmade in Germany with a focus on highest quality production standards. All ingredients are hand-selected, bottles custom-made, labels hand-written and production efforts controlled by working in small batches. The idea for an African-inspired gin evolved while reminiscing about the so-called ‘sundowner’ drinks after a day out in the South African bush. These sunset cocktails are a big tradition in South Africa - and more often than not, they consist of a G&T. The idea was backed by a mutual love of exotic African botanicals and a realisation that these would make interesting additions to a premium gin, alongside more traditional botanicals such as juniper and orange peel. Elephant Gin is distilled using 14 botanicals, including rare African ingredients that haven’t been used in gin-making before. The botanicals are hand-selected to limit any impurities and ensure only the highest quality ingredients are used.
