Review I was deeply impressed with the wines I tasted thisyear at Accendo with proprietors Bart and Daphne Araujo. The Araujos are now sourcing fruit from some of the top sites in Napa Valley, including Vine Hill Ranch, Sleeping Lady and Oakville Ranch. Tasting the wines in separate components, as I was able to do with the 2017s, is a truly eye-opening experience. Readers should also be on the look out for wines from Accendo’s sister label, Trois Noix, which is run by siblings Greg and Jaime Araujo, and is more or less the equivalent to the Altagracia range the Araujos previously made at Araujo Estate, in other words blends of the best fruit that does not go into the top bottlings. - From Napa Valley’s Extraordinary 2016 Cabernets - Part 1 (Dec 2018) by Antonio Galloni
Wine maker notes Many of the iconic Cabernet Sauvignons dating from the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s were sourced from multiple, exceptional vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley. Brilliant in their youth, the best of these wines are still vibrant and pure fifty and more years later. Accendo Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is modeled after this ideal: an uber blend utilizing impeccable fruit from superior vineyard sites, fashioned in a winemaking style that emphasizes elegance, balance, freshness and finesse. Accessible at a young age, yet with the concentration and complexity required for extended cellaring, Accendo Cabernet Sauvignon is a quintessential expression of Napa Valley terroir.
Producer Bart and Daphne Araujo were long the stewards of Napa’s famed Eisele Vineyard. After the sale of Eisele and their eponymous winery, and once the Araujos could be assured that the special piece of Napa Valley history that they called home for 23 years would continue to prosper, Bart and Daphne did not rest for long. The Araujos have enlisted the help of their longtime colleagues, viticulturist Steve Matthiasson and winemaker Francoise Peschon, to help create the next step in their Napa journey: Accendo. Accendo is the culmination of Bart and Daphne’s years of experience. They have moved from focusing on a single, great vineyard to exploring what the Napa Valley appellation has to offer as a whole. Bart and Daphne, working with their children Jaime and Greg, aim to capture the diversity and complexity of the valley and its varying terroirs. The Araujos have a new home in Oakville with a promising Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard and another new property in St. Helena with more vineyard land where they will build their new winery.
