Casamigos — Spanish for "house of friends" — was never meant for the public. In 2010, actor George Clooney and entrepreneur Rande Gerber began developing a tequila for themselves and their closest friends, spending four years and over a thousand bottles a year before reluctantly deciding to sell it commercially. They partnered with a master distiller in Jalisco, crafting a spirit from 100% Blue Weber agave slow-roasted in traditional brick ovens for 72 hours, fermented for 80 hours — well beyond industry standard — and double-distilled for a smooth, clean finish. Diageo acquired the brand in 2017 for $1 billion, one of the largest celebrity spirits deals in history.
